Updates HTML Tidy included in HTML-Kit to the September-2004 version of Tidy.

Features:

  • Suggests fixes and improvements for common errors found in HTML, XHTML and XML documents.
  • Check multiple documents through the Batch Action Wizard.

Usage:

  • To check for common HTML coding errors: open a HTML document and click the red broom icon on the Tools tab. The HTML code with any fixes suggested by Tidy will appear in the Output window. Warnings and error messages will appear in the Messages Window. Once the generated code is inspected, it can be copied back to the editor by right clicking the Output window and selecting "Copy Output to Editor".
     
  • For more options: click the down arrow next to the red Tidy icon.
     
  • To automatically read settings from a Tidy config file (instead of using the settings on the Tidy tab under Preferences): save Tidy configuration as Default.htc under the HTML-Kit\Data\Default\ folder. Invoke the Tidy plugin using its icon. The "Edit | Preferences | Tidy | Save Config" option can be used to save the current Tidy settings to a Tidy config file.
     
  • To check multiple documents: select "Tools | Batch Actions | Tidy" from the main menu.

How do I install HTML Tidy?

  • Download the "HTML Tidy" plugin and save it to a folder of your choice (for example, c:\webfiles\). It's not necessary to manually extract the *.zip file, HTML-Kit will expand it to the proper folder during the installation.
     
  •  Install Plugin
    Select "Install | Install Plugin" from HTML-Kit's "Tools" menu. Point to the downloaded *.zip file and click "Open."
     
  • If any additional prompts appear, follow them to complete the installation.

HTML Tidy's icon will appear on the "Tools" tab on HTML-Kit's Actions Bar. It can also be invoked from the "Actions | Tools" sub menu.

Whats' the quickest way to uninstall HTML Tidy?

Right click the HTML Tidy icon on the Actions Bar and select "Uninstall." Alternatively, the "Tools | Install | Uninstall Plugins" menu option in HTML-Kit can be used to uninstall this and other plugins.

Do I need the exact versions of software listed under the Requirements?

The versions listed are the minimum versions required by this plugin. For example, a plugin that requires HTML-Kit Build 290 will run on HTML-Kit Build 292 as well.

What's the best way to check which version of HTML-Kit I'm using?

The build number can be found on the "About" dialog, which is located on HTML-Kit's "Help" menu.
